Case Study - Viand's viability for water savings

Growers are choosing the short season variety, Viand (YRM70) for a number of reasons. It is
a better option than conventionally irrigated Reiziq when:

  1. On higher water use ground: Choose Viand over Reiziq on higher water use paddocks, where you expect water savings will be greater than 1.5 ML/ha* Viand is sown at least three weeks later than Reiziq. Do not use higher water use ground in years where water is scarce and water prices are high.

  2. Late sowing: Viand is a great option for later sowing, particularly when double cropping, or after late water allocation increases. The recommended November sowing window is when Viand achieves its highest yields. Research has shown that Reiziq will yield lower than Viand when sown after 15 Nov.
